Read Case File #066: Why I Ignored the “Beware of Dog” Sign
The Disposition
What I Remember About That Day
The “Beware of Dog” sign was hand-painted on a piece of plywood.
FALSE: As you can see on the photo below, which was the title photo, it was one of those hardware store bought ones.
Gruff guy was drinking Iron City Light—12-ounce can, half empty.
TRUE(ish): Definitely an IC Light, 12 ounce can. Half empty? I don’t really have any idea.
The husky’s name was Duke. He told me after I served him.
TRUE: Odd name for a husky but I definitely remember. Perhaps because of the unusual name for a husky.
The dog had one blue eye on the right, one brown on the left.
TRUE: Absolutely true. It’s a trait of Siberian huskies. If you know, you know. And, the clue was on the title photo. (See below.)
There were three empty beer cans on the porch railing.
TRUE(ish): Thee were definitely cans but I don't remember how many. My gut tells me there were many more.
I petted Duke for a solid two minutes before leaving. He leaned into it.
TRUE: And there is a distinct possibility I went ahead and had that beer.
